Course Description

In a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) world, being able to withstand or bounce back from adversity is crucial for business success. Increasingly, people and organisations need to show resilience by accepting and responding positively to change, learning from their experiences in order to move forward. Resilient people demonstrate flexibility, mental agility and consistently perform at their highest level. They have strong relationships and support networks that help them to amplify their productivity and results. Whilst resilience is related to personality and genetic make-up, there are also learnable skills that can improve our level of resilience.

This session will reveal some of the emotional skills needed to build resilience in individuals, leaders and teams. We will explore the following key components of resilience:

Self-awareness - Research shows that while most of us think we understand ourselves, this is often misaligned to how others see us. This can lead to: misunderstandings and miscommunication; ineffective team work; conflict; poor decision-making; and a lack of purpose and direction. We will consider how the view we hold of ourselves may differ from how others see us. We will also discuss common barriers to self-awareness, including projection, transference and resilience.

Adaptability - Being able to respond effectively to changing environments is a key component of individual and organisational success. However, in reality, we are subject to many barriers that make adapting to change difficult. We will discuss why we often fear change and how we can overcome this. We will introduce strategies for coping with uncertainty and techniques to encourage a growth mind-set.

Objectivity - Sometimes our emotions interfere with our ability to make good decisions. We may judge ideas based on how they make us feel or think, rather than on their individual merits. We will discuss common biases and how to overcome them to make objective decisions. We will also look at how we can consider things from a wider perspective, removing our own experiences and interests.

Being Calm - Many of us face times of excessive stress, anxiety and in extreme cases, burnout. Being able to remain calm under pressure is important for health and well-being, as well as individual and organisational success. We will explore positive coping strategies and reveal techniques that can be used in times of adversity. We will also look at common signs of not coping.

Designed for all levels of employees from Graduates Induction Cohorts to Senior Level Executives and HR Teams.

3 - Develop self-awareness, objectivity, adaptability and ability to cope under pressure.

Learning Activities

The course consists of both theory and practical sessions, a range of exercises and questionnaires are used within the course, as well as practical scenarios to enable you to practice the skills you are learning.

Knowledge of resilience and how to harness this to unlock potential for individual, team and organisational success.

Transfer of Learning into the Workplace

All delegates leave the course with individual action plans for implementation in the workplace, it is likely that they will have identified a situation within the workplace, where they can use the skills learnt and discuss the outcome with their Line Manager.
